PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Certificate C in Practical Nursing Program prepares students for entry into the healthcare system as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Garden City Community College Department of Nursing Education faculty and students believe at the completion of the program the graduates have the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities needed to practice safely and effectively. As an entry-level practical nurse, the graduates are able to meet the client’s basic needs throughout the lifespan requiring promotion, maintenance, and/or restoration of health. Upon successful completion of this program, the students are awarded a certificate and then be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination to become licensed as a Practical Nurse. LPN is a requirement for entry into the associate degree nursing program at GCCC. This certificate fulfills the College’s mission of developing skills in written communication, oral communication, and critical thinking while advancing knowledge in diversity and social responsibility. The semester-by-semester plans described below are general guidelines. Students should work closely with their academic advisors to develop a plan that best meets their own individual needs and goals.
