The Stand Alone Parent Program (SAPP) for Community Health Worker (CHW) is a course that provides the student with knowledge and skills necessary to engage in outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support and advocacy. The CHW serves as the intermediary between healthcare systems, social systems, and clients while providing education and support to individuals and communities empowering them to seek appropriate resources and self-advocate. The CHW course entails 100 clock hours of class-based instruction with 60 hours of service-learning, for a total time of 160 hours. The course follows the curriculum and requirements outlined by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and prepares students for the Kansas Community Health Worker Certification through KDHE.
