Prerequisite(s): High School cumulative GPA < 2.0 OR GED test score 90-144 OR ACT Math score 0-17 OR SAT Math score 240-480 OR ACCUPLACER QR/Algebra score 200-236. Note: Math test scores valid for 3 years.
This course is designed to give students a sound background of the basic principles underlying mathematics. The focus of the curriculum is to improve basic computational skills and problem solving abilities. Students will not use calculators as the objective of this course is in the students’ ability to demonstrate problem solving through organized work steps. This refresher course will acquaint students with the areas of basic mathematics: whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, percent’s, metrics, geometry, measurement and integers. The students will also become acquainted with the areas of mathematics that have a significant effect on the consumer.
