HELR 160 - Laboratory Diagnostics and Phlebotomy 5 Hour(s)
The course will provide knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) government regulations, training for specimen and blood collection methods using proper techniques and universal precautions for adults, children, and infants. Emphasis is on infection prevention, proper patient identification, testing specimens, labeling of specimens and quality assurance, specimen handling, processing, and proper documentation. This course includes four (4) lab days and a 30 hour clinical component, or more, to obtain 50 venipunctures and 10 skin punctures. To be eligible to sit for the RPT (Registered Phlebotomy Technician) examination administered by American Medical Technologists (AMT), this course along with EMIC 104 Medical Terminology and HELR 150 Medical Professional Issues must be successfully completed.
