READ 097 - College Reading

Prerequisite(s): Placement is determine through multiple measures according to college policy.
This course is designed to improve reading skills as a co-requisite to a college-level transfer course. The focus of the course is to study and implement the support strategies that strengthen comprehension skills, vocabulary development and strategies needed to navigate college-level transfer-course textbooks and to develop higher-order comprehension skills and reading techniques by applying critical and inferential thinking skills to college texts. Emphasis is on the transfer and application of comprehension, critical thinking, vocabulary and study skills to college course material. This course does not meet degree requirements.
