The Certificate B in Electrical Technology is a program that provides an excellent starting point for individuals who wish to pursue a career as an electrician’s apprentice. Technical and communication areas of training include development of skills in job related safety practices, electrical wiring codes, electrical principles, print reading, and residential/commercial wiring requirements, written communication, verbal communication, and problem solving. The completed program prepares students to join the electrician’s workforce or to continue their education. This credential fulfills the College’s mission of development skills in communication and problem solving while promoting a strong work ethic. The semester-by-semester plan described below is general guidance. Students should work closely with their academic advisor to develop a plan that best meets their own individual needs and goals.
The Garden City Community College Electrical Technology program is in alignment with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) CIP Code 46.0302: Electrician. A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to install, operate, maintain, and repair electric apparatus and systems such as residential, commercial, and industrial electric-power wiring; and DC and AC motors, controls, and electrical distribution panels. Includes instruction in the principles of electronics and electrical systems, wiring, power transmission, safety, industrial and household appliances, job estimation, electrical testing and inspection, and applicable codes and standards.
