FIRE 203 - Technical Rescue II 2 Hour(s)
Prerequisite(s): FIRE 102 - Firefighter II minimum grade C. This course covers technical rescue operations and instructs students in how to identify and establish levels of functional capability for safely and effectively conduct operations at rescue incidents. Students will learn how to assess a technical rescue hazard within the response area, to identify the level of operational capability, and to establish operational criteria. Analysis of operational capability includes hazard analysis, risk assessment, training level of personnel, availability of internal and external resources, effects of weather, and other difficult conditions. Technical rescue incidents are often extremely dangerous for rescue personnel. Students will receive a solid foundation of classroom and hands-on training reinforced by realistic and challenging exercises in various rescue disciplines including structural collapse, rope rescue, confined space, vehicle and machinery extrication, water emergencies, trench and excavation incidents, as well as wilderness search and rescue.
