NURS 215 - Advanced Mental Health 1 Hour(s)
Prerequisite(s): Minimum grade of C in the following courses: NURS 200 - Advanced Clinical Skills , NURS 202 - Health Alterations Clinical , NURS 204 - Health Alterations , NURS 205 - Advanced Maternal Child , and NURS 206 - Advanced Leadership . This course builds on previous foundational mental health knowledge and focuses on the role of the professional nurse in providing care to patients with complex mental health conditions. The nursing process will be utilized to formulate clinical judgments that promote and restore mental health. Emphasis will be placed on therapeutic communication and utilization of evidence- based guidelines and integration of data obtained from patient care technologies/information management systems. Theoretical knowledge related to acute and chronic mental health conditions is utilized to develop teaching plans for patients, families and the community that promote wellness, reduce risk, and minimize complications.
